Domaine de Villaine, Aligoté, Bouzeron, Côte Chalonnaise, Burgundy, France 2020
Domaine de Villaine, Aligoté, Bouzeron, Côte Chalonnaise, Burgundy, France 2020
Certified organic. Made with the golden Aligoté doré grape, which gives lower yields and more aromatic wines than its cousin, the Aligoté vert. True to its varietal nature, the Bouzeron is a lively, fruity wine, but it also has a finesse and roundness that spring from the essential nature of the terroir. These qualities lend it great versatility, and this is a masterful and irresistible Aligoté.
A subtle nose with a very fine notion of creaminess and a wonderfully vivacious personality. On the palate it is mineral and suave at the same time; its fine-grained texture is wrapped seamlessly with viscosity. The perfect wine for crustaceans.
One of Burgundy’s greatest Aligotés, a fitting tribute to a long and storied history of this beguiling grape in Burgundy, and a wine that provides intrigue and pleasure young, old, and in between.
The de Villaines farm three appellations within the Côte Chalonaise, namely Bouzeron (Aligoté), Rully (Chardonnay and Pinot Noir) and Mercurey (Pinot Noir). Their single-vineyard parcels are stunning examples of what this complex and amazing terroir can yield. Though their wines are quite enjoyable young, their ability to age well is what one might expect from a master such as de Villaine. Much of this is due to both the diversity of his vinestock and his organic and biodynamic methodology in the vineyards, both of which Aubert stands by with great conviction.
