100% Garnacha
Botani Garnacha is the result of Jorge Ordóñez's inspiration to plant cuttings and test the old vine Garnacha from Calatayud in the extreme mountain vineyards of Málaga. This is a very steep, shady area typically used for the production of JO Málaga's sweet wines. The result is an elegant and ethereal Garnacha.
The winery is located in Vélez-Málaga. The vineyards are spread across multiple villages in the Alta Axarquía, the most historic viticultural area in Málaga.
Traditional dry farmed viticulture. Practicing organic gobelet (vaso) trained vines. Cultivated completely by hand, with minimal human intervention. The vineyard receives no treatments whatsoever and is planted directly into the rock (slate).
High elevation results in significant diurnal shifts, favoring a long and balanced maturation. Destemmed whole berries ferment in 2,500L open top fermenters. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation in old 600L French oak demi-muid.
Jorge Ordóñez Selections is a family owned and operated importer of Spanish wines servicing the United States & Puerto Rico. Founded in 1987 by Jorge Ordóñez, the company was the first national specialty importer of Spanish wines that introduced the wines of Spain to the United States at a time when less than a dozen labels of large commercial brands were being commercialized in the US.
