Sokol Blosser, Pinot Noir, Redland Cuvée, Willamette Valley, Oregon 2023
Sokol Blosser, Pinot Noir, Redland Cuvée, Willamette Valley, Oregon 2023
On the nose, the Sokol Blosser Redland Cuvée Pinot Noir gives notes of red cherry, red currant, balanced with toast and spice. On the palate there are notes of red cherry and cranberry, with vanilla and baking spices. Pair with grilled salmon, squash soup, and roasted chicken with herbs.
Redland Cuvée is an homage to the original Pinot Noir that Sokol Blosser began producing in the 80s. It is named Redland after the famous Jory soil that the vines grew in: an intense, mineral-rich soil that came from ancient volcanic deposits in the Dundee Hills. Its high iron content gives the earth a rusty hue, thus the hills are often referred to as the "Red Hills".
The grapes for this wine were carefully harvested from Sokol Blosser's own Dundee Hills and Kalita vineyards, as well as Croft Vineyards in the Mt. Pisgah AVA. The grapes were 100% destemmed, fermented in 3-ton stainless steel tanks, and left to ambient soak for around 4 days. Fermentation commenced using 100% ambient yeast and cap management was done with punch downs. This wine was aged in French oak barrels for 10 months in stainless steel with a medium-toast French oak influence.
When Susan Sokol and Bill Blosser planted their first vines in the Dundee Hills AVA (American Viticultural Area) of the Willamette Valley in 1971, they needed all of their youthful self-confidence, energy and determination to make their way because, at the time, there was no wine industry in Oregon. Today, with over 900 wineries and more than 37,000 acres of planted vineyards, Oregon has grown exponentially and its wines are available throughout the world.
Sokol Blosser has survived, grown and prospered as a family-owned and run operation, and they are proud to have been part of developing and shaping Oregon's now prominent wine industry.
They create wines of world class quality that are produced sustainably, mindful of the environment, that express the distinctive flavors of their hillside vineyards. Run today by the second generation, Nik, Alex & Alison Sokol Blosser, Sokol Blosser wines reflect their values and their sense of place.
