Tyler, Pinot Noir, Santa Rita Hills, California, United States 2022
100% Pinot Noir sourced from practicing organic vineyards: Drum Canyon Vineyard & selections from the Tyler Vineyard-Designate program in the Sta. Rita Hills AVA Vineyards planted in 1973, 1997, and 2003. The soils are clay and sandy loam. The wine undergoes 100% native yeast fermentation in open-top wood vats, and is aged 8-9 months in 228L barrique French oak (10% new). Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
The 2022 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills has fragrant scents of raspberry, strawberry and blueberry with touches of blood orange, charcuterie and dried herbs. The light-bodied palate is chalky and vibrant with an understated yet perfumed core of fruit and a long, ethereal finish.
Tyler Winery, established in 2005 by Justin Tyler Willett, has rapidly grown from a small project to one of the most well-regarded producers in the Sta. Rita Hills of California. Initially starting with a few barrels while Justin was working as an assistant winemaker at Arcadian Winery, Tyler Winery has evolved into a significant name in modern Californian winemaking. The winery is known for its focus on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, sourcing grapes from some of the most prestigious vineyards in the region.
Justin Willett’s winemaking philosophy emphasizes creating wines that express the true character of their terroir with elegance and balance. This approach involves meticulous attention to detail, from handpicking grapes at night to ensure quality to minimal intervention during the winemaking process.
