Unterlind Leiwener Laurentiuslay Riesling Kabinett, Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, Germany 2022
Unterlind Leiwener Laurentiuslay Riesling Kabinett, Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, Germany 2022
The Unterlind winery in Trittenheim is the latest project by Heiner Bollig, cellar master at the world-famous Egon Müller winery in the Saar region, and his wife Veronika Bollig-Lintner. The family's own vineyards, all of which are world-famous top locations in the Middle Moselle such as Brauneberger Juffer, Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr, Trittenheimer Apotheke and Leiwener Laurentiuslay, produce classic, residually sweet top Rieslings whose great class is reminiscent of the legendary Scharzhofberger wines.
Unterlind Leiwener Laurentiuslay Kabinett 2022 is a spicy and fragrant Mosel Kabinett, from one of the most spectacular locations in the Middle Moselle!
The grapes for this Kabinett come from the renowned VDP.GROSSE LAGE Leiwener Laurentiuslay, an extremely steep slope characterized by gray Devonian slate and planted with old Riesling vines in traditional single-pole training. After the selective hand-picking, the grapes are gently pressed in a classic basket press and spontaneously fermented in stainless steel tanks. While the expressive Rieslings from the Laurentiuslay by top winemaker Nik Weis have caused a stir so far, it is now all the more exciting to see what Heiner Bollig has produced in this wine: a fragrant bouquet with yellow fruit notes of ripe grapefruit, peach and some baby pineapple with spicy notes reminiscent of allspice and earthy, smoky slate notes. On the palate, this Kabinett is very balanced and polished, is densely woven with finely chiseled acidity, noble residual sweetness and a juicy, gripping finish with recurring spicy notes. A very distinctive Kabinett with high recognition value!
